The man from Snowy River is serve! After a few years trying to find money to marry Jessica Harrison (Sigrid Thornton), Jim Craig (Tom Burlinson) returns to Snowy River. But he finds that a lot of things have changed. The succesful ranchers and bankers want to rob up all of the land of the attractive Australian mountains where he was brought up. He also finds that Jessica’s father, Harrison (Brian Dennehy) wants her to marry Alistair Patton (Nicholas Eadie), son of landowner Patton Sr. (Rhys McConnochie) . With a sort of peaceful feud between the landowners and the mountain men going on, Jim and Jessica must choose if they’re adore is worth firing up the feud even worse.

As most of the cases, I engage the first movie to “Return to Snowy River” though I judge they both deserve 5 stars. One of the reasons is I appreciate the first one more is that Kirk Douglas played Harrison in the first movie. Yes, Brian Dennehy was valid in that role, I level-headed like Kirk Douglas.

All true, to the magnificent parts of the movie. Delicate and beautiful scenery of the Australian mountains! Suitable acting by all actors and actresses, the suspense, action, and adventure will preserve you on the edge of your seats! And Tom Burlinson clear know how to dawdle when he performs some glowing wintry stunts while riding horses. Especially the earlier fragment of the movie where he proves that he can certainly creep better than Nicholas Eadie who plays the fraction of the jealous poor guy for Jessica’s affection.

I recommend this movie along with the first movie, “The Man from Snowy River”. These movies are classics and one of the family movies I inspect at home. Can’t be missed!

Return to Snowy River is a sequel that definitely compliments the first movie considering a lot of movie sequels don’t really acquire the grade. Also quick-witted that Disney was at the helm of this production, with their well-behaved track picture, it was a shapely obvious thing it was going to be spacious.

Tom Burlinson (as Jim Craig) and Sigrid Thornton (as Jessica Harrison), once again demonstrate astronomical chemistry in their interactions that makes for a very handsome, although turbulent romantic adventure. Amidst the clashing of landowners and Jessica’s father (played by Brian Dennehy) wanting to distance her from Jim Craig permanently, the couple survey the power of treasure and surmount the odds to secure happiness.

Filmed in Australia’s Victorian Alps, the cinematography is visually comely and breathtaking. The horsemanship and stunt work is very moving also and coupled with mammoth acting, this movie is a highly rewarding experience for everyone of all ages.

The 1953 Coronation Week galas included Covent Garden’s world premiere of Benjamin Britten’s Gloriana . But instead of a feel-good Olde England spectacle glorifying the first QUn Elizabeth they got an opera about a royal court riven by intrigus, a treasonous lover, and an aging, lonely monarch who must rule her passions in order to rule her kingdom. The opera’s full of brilliant, inventive music and moving emotions. It requires a QUn equal to a role that demands great acting and great singing and Josephine Barstow is just such a QUn. She embodies the part with such overwhelming intensity it’s hard to imagine anyone else in it. Her voice may have lost some of its lustre, but the toll time has taken only makes her performance more riveting. This DVD is a must-have for Barstow alone. The others in the cast are quite good; tenor Tom Randle is a fiery Essex and Clive Bayley’s oily Sir Walter Raleigh is excellent, among many others deserving of mention. Conductor Paul Daniel leads an exciting performance, despite a few qustionable tempos.

But director Phyllida Lloyd’s transformation of a staged opera to film will be controversial, as will the brutal cuts she makes to more single-mindedly focus on the QUn and her interior conflicts. Thus, what we see is not what Britten intended, but instead a valid interpretation of the opera by a skilled director. Still, the music is compromised by her approach, which blends onstage performance film and studio scenes in which singers match their parts to piped-in orchestral accompaniments with backstage, handheld camera shots showing performers changing costume and bantering among themselves as Britten’s music plays. It’s exciting video, but more valuable as a supplement to the complete staged opera than as your sole Gloriana. –Dan Davis

Chappelle, considering a career in politics, floats a couple of trial campaign commercials, including one that promises to solve America’s health care crisis by giving every citizen a fake Canadian I.D. Chappelle also suggests an effective program for teaching sexual abstinence to high school students: Forcing them to watch their principals have sex with the oldest female teachers on staff.

There’s a good bit, too, about black soothsayer Negrodamus, whose ability to foresee events is limited to the fortunes of celebrities. Coming under fire (amusingly) are those McDonald’s commercials suggesting that burger-flipping employment for African Americans can overhaul inner city communities. But, as with season 1, there are several masterpieces in this collection as well, such as Chappelle’s vision of what the Internet would look like if it was a place you could actually, physically visit (with the equivalents of pop-up ads, porn sites, etc.). Equally inspired is a sketch in which a freeloading Chappelle, having impregnated the ultra-rich Oprah Winfrey, indulges his every whim. Best of all is Chappelle’s take on what President Bush’s administration would look like if the Chief Executive were, in fact, a black man. –Tom Keogh
